Venezuela has a number of rum producers, and Venezuela, as a rum country, has helped promote rum's popularity worldwide in recent years. A small handful of major brands have paved the way for the smaller brands found in Venezuela and exports of Venezuelan rum have gradually grown larger and larger.
The Corporation Alcoolés del Caribe distillery, better known by the abbreviation C.A.C.D., is a larger distillery in Venezuela which is probably best known for selling rum in single barrels, through a rum merchant in Europe. Of course, the distillery also supplies larger quantities of rum to other brands, which are bottled and sold in Venezuela.
The rum from Venezuela is known to be dark, fruity and sweet. In the country, both distillation of the batch and continuous distillation types are used. Sometimes separately, and other times the two distillate types are mixed.
